Diapheromeridae -- a Walkingstick Family

Walking sticks are a marvel of nature, an insect that captures the imiagination of adults and children alike. By moving ever so slowly through vegetation and mostly with the wind they escape the attention of birds that would otherwise make a meal of them. These are plant feeders and lack the strong raptorial arms of praying mantids that can look superficially similar.
