Flame Skimmer

This male was found patrolling miles from water on the summit of Shaw Butte, a small mountain in Phoenix, Arizona on 23 Oct. 2005

This dragonfly is common especially around small ponds across the Sonoran Desert. Adults can fly a considerable distance from the watery habitat of the immatures to hunt for small insects.
