Observed at Grenada Park, Phoenix, Arizona, Nov. 2019.

Ducks in the desert? Oh, yes! Phoenix and Tucson city parks and golf courses replete with lush lawns and ponds attract migrating ducks throughout the winter months. Before man diverted all the water from the Gila and Colorado Rivers there was plenty of natural habitat for waterfowl. Cibola and Imperial National Wildlife Refuges on the Colorado River remain as important wintering grounds for thousands of water birds.

Part-Year Resident - migration from north - generally absent in summer
