Lazuli Bunting

Passerina amoena

Lazuli Bunting, Passerina amoena, photo © by Robert Shantz

This pair of lazuli buntings was photographed by Robert Shantz at George Walker House, Paradise, Arizona. The mostly brown female is on the left and the namesake male on the right.

Lazuli Buntings bring their bright colors to the Sonoran Desert as they travel to and from the Neotropics. They are most likely to stop and feed in riparian zones where there is an abundance of seeds or at seed feeders provided by human inhabitants of the desert.
