FLOWERS: A loose cluster of bright red or pink flowers each with five petals.

LEAVES: Broadly orbicular with distinctive, rounded lobes. The lobes are coursely toothed. Supported on long, slender petioles. Coralbells, Heuchera sanguinea, © by Michael Plagens

PERENNIAL: A woody underground stem with the leaves all clustered close to ground - without above ground branches (i.e. acaulescent).

RANGE: In shady spots among broken cliff faces mostly in the canyons along the Arizona-Mexico border. These attractive plants are used in gardens and as cut flowers.

FRUIT: small seeds inside a capsule.

UNARMED: No spines.
