Found on limestone ledge adjacent to Peppersauce Canyon, Sta Catalina Mts., Arizona, USA. 18 April 2010.

FLOWERS: Buttery orange with five free petals and five stamens appear in mid to late spring. Darker orange-red markings near base of each petal. Supported on slender peduncles.

LEAVES: Narrow leaves are grass like, mostly less than 2 cm long.

ANNUAL: Slender green stems and rarely more than 30 cm tall. Branching freely.

RANGE: Generally distributed through much of the southwestern United States on dry grass plains.

FRUIT: About ten seeds inside a dry capsule.

UNARMED: No spines.
