Pachybrachis are small beetles, 2 to 4+ mm long, with a complex pattern of fine dark lines on a background of cream, yellow, brown or reddish. With more than 150 kinds in North America making identification to species is difficult. The adults tend to be found on flowers or fresh new growth of plants. The immature larvae construct a case from fecal material and live inside, snail like. Some species feed on fallen dead leaves.
