Observed on bank of Verde River n. of Rio Verde, Maricopa Co., Arizona. May 2012.

This cultivated, ornamental sedge is native to the island of Madagascar and has been widely planted in subtropical and tropical gardens everywhere. It has become an invasive weed in several world locations and it has occasionally escaped cultivation in the Sonoran Desert into moist, riparian habitats.

Cyperaceae -- Sedge Family
