FLOWERS: Bright white rays surround the yellow disc florets to make a daisy usu. less than 5 cm in diameter. Blooming mid to late spring in years with adequate rains. The phyllaries have cob-webby hairs.

ANNUAL: Delicate spring annual with several erect stems reaching sometimes 0.5 meter.

LEAVES: Leaves are usu. linear but may be slightly enlarged towards tip or have some lobes.

RANGE: More frequent in the Sonoran Desert at middle and higher elevations occuring esp. on terraces adjacent to washes where sandy soils have accumulated. Also ranges in sandy soils throughout western North America.

FRUIT: Mature seeds have a series of flattened awns at the top.
